Key Takeaways
- ✓Sender value over subject lines: People open emails based on who sent them, not clever subject lines. Your best friend's email gets opened regardless of subject line because the sender matters more than content hooks.
- ✓The delight rule: Aim to delight readers three times per email—when they see your name, while reading the content, and later when they remember it. This creates lasting engagement beyond the initial open.
- ✓Consistency and personality: Email at least weekly using conversational tone like writing to a friend. Avoid corporate language, tell short stories, and focus on connection rather than over-teaching or delivering bullet-pointed value.
What It Covers
Email open rates increase when you become someone worth hearing from, not by using gimmicky subject lines or tricks that annoy subscribers.

And I'm gonna do that by sharing everything I know about how to get people to open your emails. Most of it, I learned from a friend of mine who's an incredible copywriter. His name is Matthew Kimberly, and he's one of the best email communicators on the planet. I'm gonna be sharing you all the strategies that he taught me about how to get people to really love opening your emails, be rushing to open your emails, and it has nothing to do with spammy subject lines. I'm gonna be giving a ton of shout outs to Matthew Kimberly because, really, he's taught me everything I know on this topic. And if you ever seen this guy go to work, he's incredible. His emails get opened. They get read. But most of all, they get remembered. People actually reply to him. They ask for more. They literally complain if he's not sending them emails, which is crazy, which is the opposite of what most people experience. Like, people unsubscribe. When I learned from him, what I'm gonna share with you today, I just came to the realization that this guy cracked the code. He figured this out. So let's get started. And let's start with the truth, a truth that really shocked me, which is your open rates have nothing to do with your subject lines. Your name does. People don't open emails because the subject line is clever. They open emails because you are someone they wanna hear from. Do a little exercise with me. I want you to just think about this. If your best friend emails you, you don't care what the subject line is. You are opening that email because you wanna hear from them. You wanna see what's …
