Key Takeaways

  • ✓Agentic AI Adoption: New AI assistants like Instinct and Meta's Muse operate via iMessage-style phone numbers rather than standalone apps, proactively monitoring email, calendars, and prescriptions to surface missed tasks. Instinct automatically snagged a hard-to-get restaurant reservation by monitoring OpenTable drop times after receiving login credentials. Two users can "friend" their AI agents together, allowing the bots to coordinate schedules directly between themselves without human involvement.
  • ✓Commerce Disruption via AI Agents: Amazon's ad-based revenue model faces structural threat as AI agents become the primary commerce interface, bypassing sponsored placements entirely. Shopify publicly welcomed AI agents while Amazon blocked Meta's agent. The pattern mirrors the 2000s shift from brick-and-mortar to online retail — within a decade, the majority of purchases will likely originate through AI agent interfaces rather than destination websites like Amazon or Google.
  • ✓Beta-Alanine for Endurance Climbing: A randomized, double-blind study of 15 elite climbers found that 4 grams of beta-alanine daily for four weeks produced 57% longer time-to-failure on traverses versus 19% in the placebo group, plus 21 additional seconds beyond placebo. For longer traverses of one to two minutes, the beta-alanine group completed 10 more moves versus 4 in placebo. Ferriss uses 6.4 grams daily via Thorne Beta-Alanine SR (sustained release) to minimize paresthesia side effects.
  • ✓Walnuts and Sperm Quality: A 2012 randomized controlled trial of 117 healthy men aged 21–35 found that adding 75 grams of walnuts daily (roughly 2.5 handfuls) produced statistically significant improvements in sperm vitality, motility, and morphology. A 2024 meta-analysis confirmed that at least 60 grams of mixed nuts per day improved the same three markers, though sperm concentration did not significantly change. Caloric density warrants monitoring given nuts run approximately 160–180 calories per ounce.
  • ✓Propofol Dream Engineering for PTSD: Stanford Medicine research shows that patients emerging from propofol anesthesia can be guided through structured dream rehearsal — imagining traumatic events resolving positively — during a monitored 10-minute undisturbed emergence window. Some patients with complex PTSD reported zero symptoms at 10-month follow-up after a single session. This protocol requires no change to surgical anesthesia; propofol is used only during the tapering-out phase with EEG monitoring and post-session dream recall interviews.

What It Covers

Tim Ferriss and Kevin Rose cover the rapid shift toward agentic AI personal assistants (Instinct, Muse, ChatGPT Dots), the collapse of destination-based commerce, supplement protocols for climbing performance and fertility, dream engineering research, neuromodulation via TMS, and book and media recommendations — spanning roughly a dozen distinct topics across 114 minutes.

  • •Duorexin Receptor Antagonists (DORAs) for Sleep: The DORA class of sleep drugs — duorexin receptor antagonists — shows preliminary evidence of beta-amyloid clearance in human data, making them relevant for individuals with family histories of Alzheimer's or APOE e3/e4 genetic status. Unlike benzodiazepines or older sleep aids linked to cancer risk, DORAs appear to preserve sleep architecture. Matt Walker has a podcast episode covering the research. Ferriss uses Quviviq, a prescription DORA, particularly during international travel.
  • •Urolithin A for Mitochondrial Renewal: Urolithin A supports mitophagy — the cellular process of clearing worn-out mitochondria — which declines with age. Gut bacteria can synthesize it from pomegranate compounds, but a study of 100 adults found only 12 had detectable levels. Ferriss takes 1,000mg daily of Mitopure by Timeline, a form backed by 15-plus years of research and multiple human clinical trials. Timeline offers 30% off at timeline.com/tim. Potential benefits include reduced neuroinflammation beyond mitochondrial renewal.

Notable Moment

During a live demonstration mid-episode, Rose called his ChatGPT AI agent on speakerphone, and it answered by name, confirmed his podcast recording schedule with Ferriss including the exact time block, and offered to handle follow-up tasks — all without consuming standard AI usage credits, functioning essentially as a persistent, callable personal assistant.

Optimal, minimal. At this altitude, I can run flat out for a half mile before my hands start to shake. Can I answer your personal question? Now we're just seeing a perfect time. Kev Kev. Tim Tim. Good to see you, man. Dude, glad we're doing this. Yeah. So fun to hang. Back in LA. Back in LA for a little bit, and it is a nice corner of the world. It's not bad. You know? Until the failed state implodes, it's gonna be lovely. Yeah. It's... We'll enjoy what we can. Yeah. So you have lots that we can talk about. Mhmm. I've got some things jotted down. Where should we start? Let's start with probably the most talked about thing these days, which is AI. And I, you know, I know people are tired of hearing about all this AI stuff, but I think there's been an inflection point in the last, I'd call it three weeks, that I am just really blown away by. AI has turned into something... I kind of saw it coming, but I didn't think it would come this rapidly. So when I first thought of AI, thought, okay, we have this chatbot, we can launch it, we can ask questions of whatever. I gotta repair this light switch, how do I do it? That's typical AI use case over the last, call it two years. In the last month, there has been a release of a handful of AI assistants that are not your typical, like, ChatGPT, Claude. They're different. So have you played with Instinct at all? I haven't, but I know I know people are. Yeah. So you should you should provide some context for folks who don't recognize it. Well, so let's let's start off. So let me first put the... These are the people in the ring that are entering this new kind of era of personal assistant AI, which is, I would say, Instinct, Muse, which is a a meta product, and then you have GrockBot, which is essentially Grock, which is Elon's project. So when Instinct dropped, someone sent me a text invite. Was like, hey. You just gotta sign up for this. I was like, oh, man. I don't want another AI thing. Like, you know, I I already do this all day long. I'm using it for coding and all that stuff. Like, whatever. So the first thing that you notice is it's not another app to download. It actually is iMessage. So they have reverse engineered, and they actually give you just a phone number to chat with. It's closer to WeChat. In China. Yeah. Exactly. So I have this phone number. I texted it. It was like, hey. Off your Google account. And, like, I know this is your nightmare apart from a privacy standpoint. But it's like, you know, give us your Gmail, give us your googledrive..ru. Just click here. Yeah. Exactly. It's like Russian site or something. But I I …
